Drinking in America: A History, tells the full story of America’s on-again-off-again affair with alcohol from Plymouth Rock to the present. It’s a reveling tour of our drinking habits and reactions to them, and of how drinking (and its problems) has mirrored each stage in the making of the nation. The book is deeply informed and based on original scholarship, and written to make the story accessible to the widest possible readership. Now a classic work—the New York Times has called it “brilliant social history”—it has been continuously in print since 1982.
